It is almost Mardi Gras time again in New Orleans & elsewhere.This film takes us back to Mardi Gras 1941 and is in living color. This was the first year a female krewe paraded (Venus) and was the last celebration until after the war. The hot Dixie jazz is provided by George Lewis & Johnny Dodds. So Bon Temps Roule! Mardi Gras is the one holiday that's probably more important than any other holiday. (At least to the city of New Orleans...) I was all over Mardi Gras this year, and I loved every second of it!! It helps that most of the parades pass near my apartment, too. I threw in footage from a few different parades, plus I got some footage from the madness of Mardi Gras day in the French Quarter. This years Mardi Gras was definitely the best one, yet! Next week, I may post a slideshow of the retarded pictures that my friends and I took.

How do I explain this? There was this HUGE parade, over 500,000 people attended and it lasted for over two hours. I bought this really cheap chair and stood on it ankle-to-ankle for two hours (my legs were killing me by the end) with my camcorder above my head. So some of the video is out of focus and a little shaky. People were 6 to 10 deep on the street and 4 to 5 deep on the sidewalk. I was lucky I even got a spot. But the parade was absolute chaos. I'd like to think that because I come from Atlanta I'm pretty liberal with gay and lesbian thoughts. But this parade blew my mind. It was incredible, unreal and outrageous. I'm SO glad I got to experience and SO glad I asked for a camcorder for Christmas! Highlights include: - Beautiful head dresses - Lots of dancing trojan warriors - Mature Age Gays. Possibly the cutest old people I've ever seen. They got a lot of applause. - A John Howard (the Prime Minister) head with "hottie" above it. Apparently he isn't too popular with the gay crowd (or anyone I've met...) - The Bondage group - Lots of really funny dancing boxers - The woman's face you see parading by is the mayor of Sydney. Apparently she is popular and well liked - A Dream Girls float for the bar I was standing across the street from called StoneWall - A Rocky Horror group, of course - The Flintstones. There was some sort of message about how we don't live in the stone age anymore and gay rights - Random dancing mascots... - The Bears! This group was huge! And made me laugh.
