At 0:27 it sounds like he's saying 'shower'. He's actually saying 'Shout'. This song is a cool song. OMG they are a great group of British musicians Roland Orzabal,Curt Smith,Manny Elias and Ian Stanley. This group are like consisted into groups such as Coldplay,Radiohead,MSP (manic street preachers) and Verve. I love this song.

Just an example, do some research about the miners' long strike back then and the bands that supported them. Ms Thatcher was not very popular in the pop/rock world. However it didn't start with her, it didn't stop with her.

Well, obviously the only ones YPU've heard of, but not the only ones in UK who made a clear point through their music, before them, at the same time and after them. And I'm perfectly familiar with their songs, I've had all their album since the 80's, and not only theirs. Of course I'm perfectly aware thay some music never got too much or simply no airplay in your country.

And when I say "they were the only ones who were doing this" I meant that Tears were the only ones who were doing this back in 1984. And they said "FUCK YOU" with a certain degree of subtlety.

Yeah but listen to all of their songs that came after this.
Everybody Wants To Rule The World
Sowing the Seeds of Love
Badman's Song.
These songs all have a point of saying something about how corrupt the world was back then and how corrupt it is now.

Well I just mentioned a couple of other bands that maybe were not famous in America but believe me TFF were not first, nor the only ones either to sing openly about what they didn't like, especially those hard years.
But they didn't have to be first or the only ones to be great anyway!

Yeah but how many of them were actually making a statement and weren't talking about girls and partying?
The only two other bands I can think of that were doing that back in 1984 were Tears for Fears and U2 before them.

Celeste, of course there were lots of other bands singing about what they didn't like back them. Even before them, like The Jam. And also some of Heaven 17 stuff who also were synth, just to mention two very famoous acts then.
Btw, back in the day it was called synthpop, not rock.

I actually thought Depeche Mode sang this when i was a child. I love this song it's a good song. I heard their Ska band back in the 70's. What was the name of that band. I can shout at anybody. But this song is great. My hair is all blond and i thought they sang this song

I really like the guitar solo at the end. There's nothing flashy about it, but it works so well with the song...very melodic.

January 7th, 2009 at 22:13:08 You never saw any of the other British synth rock acts going "FUCK AUTHORITY!" or "FUCK YOU THATCHER!"
January 7th, 2009 at 22:36:07 I agree w/the guitar solo also, understated but totally effective.
